Visited Barcelona with my sister and my mum, we’ve had a great time on this food and wine tour, we’ve got to see different parts of Barcelona and tried new foods and understood the culture and history of the different areas. What Makes the Gothic Quarter, El Born, and Barceloneta Special
The Gothic Quarter is Barcelona’s ancient soul — a labyrinth of Roman walls, medieval lanes, and hidden plazas. Between the cathedral and the old Jewish quarter, tiny tapas bars serve pa amb tomàquet, jamón, and cold cañas in candlelit rooms unchanged by time. Eating here means getting happily lost and ducking into whatever doorway smells best.
El Born sits just east with a sharper, more creative edge. Its medieval mansions now house natural wine bars, modern Catalan restaurants, and artisan vermouth spots, while the Mercat de Santa Caterina adds colour with stalls of local produce, cured meats, and fresh seafood. Tradition meets Barcelona’s contemporary appetite — stylish but never pretentious.
Barceloneta belongs to the sea. This old fishermen’s quarter of narrow streets and low balconied buildings hugs the Mediterranean, and the food follows the water — chiringuitos grilling sardines on the sand, no-frills restaurants serving fideuà and arroz negro, and market stalls overflowing with the morning catch. Salt air, cold beer, and the freshest seafood in the city — Barceloneta is Barcelona at its most relaxed and generous.

Amazing Tapas tour in the heart of Barcelona Lindsay was an excellent tour guide! We very much appreciated the local history and the food stops on our tour. The food and drinks were all excellent and it was great to be in a different part of town than where we were staying. This was my 2nd food tour with Eating Europe and I’d recommend them for tours in any city!

Petra was tons of fun and made the tapas tour a blast. She was friendly and took plenty of pictures for us and provided a bunch of fun facts along the way. I enjoyed the places we went and thought the timing and spacing was really well thought out! You won’t be disappointed exploring El Born with Petra. My favorite spot were the fideuà with our server who had a talent in mouth trumpeting and Titi, the little friendly bird from our first stop.

My wife and I did the Eating Europe tour in Barcelona with Esther as our guide. We were on the Viking Saturn cruise ship for a stop and chose this on our own. We did the noon tour. It was easy to get to. The tour was a lot of fun. Last week we did Rome tour and loved it as well.

We had a great experience with our guide, Sky who took us on a great tour of Barcelona. We went to 4-5 different spots and received drinks with our food at 3 of the spots. Only place I would have skipped would be the almond store but apart from that it was fabulous!

Dining with Purpose
We proudly support World Central Kitchen. Every tour you book helps provide meals to communities in crisis.
Our Barcelona food tours are led by people who live this city through its markets, its barris, and its endless appetite. Vermouth lovers, mercat regulars, pintxos devotees, and storytellers who know which family-run bodega has been pouring cava since their grandparents' day. They take you past the Ramblas and into the neighborhoods where barcelonins actually eat — because the real Barcelona has always been found one street behind the obvious.

Left my cold Canadian roots for Sunny Spain back in 2015 and lived happily ever after
My favourite Catalan dish has to be Calçots with Romesco sauce! Messy and fun, these seasonal spring onions are BBQed with friends and often eaten outside while sharing a Porron of wine!
If you find yourself in Barcelona on a weekend afternoon, the lush squares of the Gracia neighbourhood are the perfect spot to mingle with locals and expats on the terrace of a Vermuteria.

In 2018, I left the vibrant life of Colombia for the culture and energy of Spain, came for an MBA, stayed for the vida Catalana!
My favorite Catalan treat? Definitely bunyols, sweet anise-scented dough balls, best enjoyed with strong coffee, loud laughter, and good friends.
Grab your crew and hit Carrer de Blai at golden hour, where every bar overflows with colourful pinchos and the clink of cañas or wine seals the perfect evening.

Born in Madrid with a Basque family, surname and blood, lived in Barcelona for more than 20 years, can you believe that?
My favourite dish: txipirones en su tinta (squid in ink sauce).
Don't try to see everything when you are on vacation! Embrace "slow life".
Petra
Grew up in Croatia, and after traveling around the world, I settled in Barcelona at the start of 2023, and it instantly felt like home.
Dessert is my favorite part of every meal, so it’s no surprise that crema catalana quickly became my go-to dish.
Don't forget to visit the local markets, and head up to Montjuïc to catch the sunset, the city looks magical from up there!
Noah
Orginally from the USA, I’ve lived in Barcelona for more than 14 years.
Unmissable dish: slow cooked beef cheeks.
Don't keep your nose in your phone, be in the moment when you’re on vacation!
Esther
I was born in the beautiful and flamenca city of Granada and have lived in beautiful Barcelona for 7 years.
My favorite Catalan dish is the delicious fricandó, a beef and mushroom stew made with a good wine and cognac.
Don't forget to take a stroll through beautiful Barceloneta and lose yourself in some of its most traditional bars.
Frequently Asked Questions
General Tour Information
Is a food tour in Barcelona worth it?
Absolutely! Barcelona is packed with amazing food, but knowing where to go is the real challenge. A food tour saves you from the tourist traps and takes you straight to the best, most authentic spots. You’ll taste the true flavors of Barcelona, hear the stories behind the dishes, and experience the city like a local—not just a visitor. Plus, let’s be honest, wandering the Gothic Quarter or El Born with a glass of vermut in hand is much more fun when you have an expert guide leading the way.
What food is Barcelona famous for?
Barcelona’s culinary scene is a delicious mix of Catalan tradition and Mediterranean influences. You can’t leave without trying pa amb tomàquet (bread rubbed with tomato and olive oil), jamón ibérico (cured ham that melts in your mouth), and the legendary patatas bravas (crispy potatoes with spicy sauce). Seafood lovers, get ready for suquet de peix (a rich fish stew), and of course, a visit isn’t complete without indulging in crema catalana, the local (and arguably superior) version of crème brûlée.
What’s included in the price of the food tour?
All food and drinks are included in the price you pay for the tour. No hidden charges or upsells here.
How long are the tours?
Our Barcelona tours range in length from 3 to 3.5 hours.
What neighborhoods or areas do the tours cover?
Each tour’s area can be found listed as its “location”. You might explore the Gothic Quarter, El Born, or Barceloneta!
What is the group size?
Our tours have maximum capacities of between 8-12 guests. This ensures that our small groups are able to move unobtrusively through the neighborhoods we explore, respecting our surroundings and the locals that live in Barcelona.
I’m traveling alone. Do you offer single tickets?
We love welcoming solo travelers! All of our tours are open to individual guests.
Do children under 4 need a ticket for the tour?
Children under 4 years old do not need a ticket and can join the tour for free. However, food is not included for children under 3 and under. Paid tickets with food included are available for ages 4 and up.
Food and Drink
What kind of food will we taste?
You will taste a variety of local and regional Catalan and Spanish foods which tell the story of Barcelona through its culinary culture.
Offerings may vary by day or season, but you’re sure to enjoy a delightful array of local flavors!
Are drinks included?
Yes. All tours include drinks, and they’re always included in the price you pay.

What should I wear?
There is no dress code on our tours, however it’s recommended to wear a good pair of shoes (these are walking tours, after all!) and be prepared for the elements, even though most of our stops are indoors.
Are tourists welcome in Barcelona?
Yes, absolutely. There’s a Catalan concept, gaudir, which means to enjoy or take pleasure in something deeply. That’s the feeling we believe every visitor should experience in Barcelona.
You’ll find that spirit of gaudir from locals when you connect with the city respectfully. It’s found when you support the bustling local markets like Santa Caterina, help keep the narrow streets of the Gothic Quarter quiet at night, and take time to appreciate the incredible Modernista architecture. This is the authentic Barcelona experience.
It’s this connection we create on our Eating Europe tours. We step away from the crowds and take you to the places locals truly love, introducing you to the people behind the food and the stories that make this city one of a kind.
Tour Experience & Expectations
Will the guide speak my language?
Our guides are all fluent in English, and of course speak Spanish as well. For requests for tours in other languages, please contact us.
Can I take photos during the tour?
Yes! You are welcome to take photos and videos of the food and scenery throughout your tour. If you would explicitly like to get photos of fellow guests or your guide, we kindly ask that you get their permission first.
Do I need to tip the guide?
Tips for our lovely guides are not required, but they are appreciated!
Will we visit the same places as other tours?
No. While some tours may have one or two stops which other groups visit (can’t help it if they’re popular!), Eating Europe are proud that the majority of stops on every Barcelona tour are restaurants and vendors who work exclusively with us.
Do you offer private or custom tours?
We do! Please see the “Book a Private Tour” option or contact us, and we can arrange a private or custom Barcelona tour to suit your specific needs.
