Tour Description

Looking for a private Rome food tour that goes beyond the tourist trail and weaves food, wine, and 2,000 years of history into a single afternoon? Our private Eternal Rome Food Tour is designed exclusively for your group — 4 hours, 6 stops, and three of Rome’s most iconic neighborhoods: Campo de’ Fiori, the Jewish Ghetto, and Trastevere.

Your private experience begins in Campo de’ Fiori, sampling Roman delicacies and local wine at the lively market square. From there, your dedicated local guide walks you through a hidden passage into the Jewish Ghetto, where you’ll taste century-old Roman-Jewish recipes — including the legendary carciofi alla giudia (Jewish-style fried artichoke) at Da Enzo al 29. You’ll also gain exclusive access to a 2,000+ year-old wine cellar for a tasting you won’t find on any other tour. The journey ends in charming Trastevere at Spirito Divino, a Slow Food member, for iconic Roman pasta and gelato.

Who this private food tour is for:

  • Families with kids (4+) — Kid-friendly pacing, flexible stops, and food that works for all ages.
  • Couples and celebrations — Anniversaries, honeymoons, birthdays, and proposals.
  • Corporate groups and team building — Offsites, client entertainment, incentive trips, conference programs, and board-level hosting.
  • Heritage travelers — For guests interested in Rome’s Jewish-Roman culinary and cultural heritage, the private format allows the guide to focus on the stories and sites that matter most to your group.
  • First-time visitors to Rome — Three iconic neighborhoods, 2,000 years of history, and the city’s best food — in one tour.
  • Groups of friends — Keep everyone together, at your pace.

Unlike our small-group tour, a private booking means your schedule, your pace, your people.

What Makes Campo de’ Fiori, the Jewish Ghetto, and Trastevere Special

Rome’s neighborhoods each have their own story, charm, and flavor, and exploring them is one of the best ways to experience the city’s culture — through its streets, its people, and, of course, its food.

Campo de’ Fiori is famous for its lively open-air market and bustling piazza. By day, vendors fill the square with fresh produce, flowers, and local specialties; by night, it comes alive with cafes and bars. The food here is colorful, seasonal, and unmistakably Roman.

The Jewish Ghetto is steeped in history and rich culinary tradition. Its narrow streets are lined with bakeries, kosher restaurants, and classic Roman-Jewish dishes like carciofi alla giudia (fried artichokes), giving visitors a taste of both history and flavor.

Trastevere, across the Tiber, enchants with cobbled streets, ivy-covered buildings, and family-run trattorias. From traditional pasta and artisanal gelato to hidden wine bars, every corner offers an authentic Roman food experience within the neighborhood’s lively, village-like atmosphere.

This private tour covers three of Rome’s most iconic neighborhoods — Campo de’ Fiori, the Jewish Ghetto, and Trastevere — with 6 stops, exclusive access to a 2,000-year-old wine cellar, and tastings at Slow Food-member restaurants like Spirito Divino and Da Enzo al 29. It’s the most comprehensive food and history experience we offer in Rome.

What's included in the price of the private food tour?

All food and drinks across 6 stops, plus your dedicated private local guide and exclusive access to the wine cellar. No hidden charges, no upsells.

How long is the tour?

This private food tour runs 4 hours and can be extended on request.

What neighborhoods does the tour cover?

The tour covers Campo de’ Fiori, the Jewish Ghetto, and Trastevere — three of Rome’s most historic food neighborhoods, connected by a hidden passage known to very few tourists.

What is the private group size?

Private bookings are available for 2 to 20 guests. For larger groups, contact us and we’ll design a custom experience — often split across parallel sessions.

How far in advance do I need to book a private food tour?

We recommend booking at least 2 weeks in advance. Corporate and heritage groups should book 4+ weeks ahead, especially during peak season (April–October).

Can I customize the private tour?

Yes. Start time, pacing, stops, and focus can all be adjusted. Groups with particular interest in Jewish-Roman heritage, Slow Food, or wine can ask us to bias the tour toward those themes.

Is the private tour suitable for families with young kids?

Yes. Kids as young as 4 can join. Because it’s private, the pacing and stops can be adjusted to work for families.

Do children under 4 need a ticket for the tour?

Children under 4 do not need a ticket and can join for free. Food is not included for children 3 and under. Paid tickets with food are available for ages 4 and up.

Food and Drink

What kind of food will we taste?

Are drinks included?

Yes. All drinks — prosecco, wine, and water — are included in the price.

Can you accommodate dietary restrictions, including kosher diets?

Because it’s a private booking, we can accommodate most dietary needs with advance notice — vegetarian, pescatarian, vegan, gluten-free, kosher, and halal. The Jewish Ghetto stops include traditional Roman-Jewish cuisine, though not all stops are strictly kosher — please let us know your requirements at the time of booking. Guests with severe or life-threatening allergies cannot participate for safety reasons.

Are portions enough for a meal?

Yes. You’re guaranteed to eat at least the equivalent of a full meal across the 6 stops.

What's the difference between the morning and evening tours?

Morning tours include a tasting experience at the lively Campo de’ Fiori market. Evening tours take you to a historic location for Roman street food and a traditional fried delicacy. Both include the wine cellar, Jewish Ghetto stops, and Trastevere finale.

Tour Experience & Expectations

Will the guide speak my language?

All our guides are fluent in English and Italian. For private bookings, we can arrange guides in Spanish, French, Portuguese, and German on request.

How much walking is involved?

This is a walking tour covering three connected neighborhoods. The pace is leisurely and there are multiple sit-down stops. If anyone in your group has mobility concerns, contact us — we can adjust the pacing and route, or recommend our private golf cart tour as an alternative.

Can I take photos during the tour?

Yes. The Jewish Ghetto, hidden passages, and Trastevere streets make this one of the most photogenic tours we offer.

Do I need to tip the guide?

Tips are not required but always appreciated.

Will we visit the same places as other tours?

No. The majority of stops are venues that work exclusively with Eating Europe — including Da Enzo al 29 and Spirito Divino. On a private booking, you have even more flexibility to adjust stops if you’ve been to Rome before.

Do you offer other private food tours in Rome?

Yes. We also offer private tours in Trastevere (pasta making), Testaccio, and private VIP golf cart tours (day and night). Contact us to discuss the best fit for your group.
